🚌 Two-day visit for IMAPP students in Hamburg

After the conclusion of the lessons and just before the start of the end-of-semester exams, IMAPP students from 2025/2027 intake left Dortmund for Hamburg to visit DESY and European XFEL from 23 to 24 July.

XFEL is the world’s largest X-ray laser opening up completely new research opportunities for scientists and industrial users: it generates ultrashort X-ray flashes—27 000 times per second and with a brilliance that is a billion times higher than that of the best conventional X-ray radiation sources. Using its X-ray flashes, scientists will be able to map the atomic details of viruses, decipher the molecular composition of cells and study processes such as those occurring deep inside planets.

The European XFEL GmbH brings together 12 countries as shareholders and Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (simply known as DESY) represents the German one and most importantly operates the electron accelerator. It also has been one of the main partners of IMAPP since the birth of the master.
