International Master on Advanced methods in Particle Physics

Prof. Dr. Julia K. Vogel

Research activity description and interest :

My research focuses on dark matter searches, high-energy astrophysics, and X-ray telescope design. My group studies axions—hypothetical dark matter candidates—particularly those produced in stars via the Primakoff effect. Using instruments like CAST and the future IAXO at DESY, we search for these particles. In X-ray astronomy, my group investigate neutron stars, especially magnetars, using observatories such as NuSTAR and XMM-Newton. These missions also offer novel ways to search for axion-like particles. To support these efforts, we develop advanced reflective X-ray optics for use in both fundamental research and applied technologies.
